MBC welcomes new coaches for the summer!
MBC is proud to introduce four new coaches to the boatclub for the 2009 summer season.
Club Team Head Coach
Micah Boyd will assume the Club Coach duties starting Saturday May 16th at 9:00 AM. Sign-up on the wiki for Club practice now.
Micah started his rowing career at the Minnesota Boat Club under Coach Miriam Baer. He rowed in many prestigious races in the NWIRA circuit before winning the 2x at the 2000 US Rowing Youth Invite with his brother. Micah then went on to row for the University of Wisconsin - Madison for 4 years where he won the 2002 Eastern Sprints and received the Norm Sonju Award for most outstanding rower in 2004. After his collegiate career he rowed for Penn AC and went on to make the 2005 World Championship team in the 2+. Later made the US Olympic Team in the 8+ and received a Bronze Medal. He was an assistant coach at UW in 2005 and looks forward to coaching again this summer.
Club and Novice Team Assistant Coach
Joe Celette will be the assistant coach for the club and novice teams.
Joe rowed as a junior under Miriam Baer and raced in countless local, regional and national regattas. He then rowed for the esteemed University of Minnesota's men's crew.
Student interns
Two student interns will be joining the club this summer.
Keenan Jackson Bennett will be interning with the Novice Team assisting John Cavanaugh and Matt Franke. Keenan rowed in high school for the Hamp Crew in Massachusetts. More recently Keenan just completed his junior year at St.Olaf and third year on the rowing team as an athlete and student coach.
Ashley Ella VanVleet will be interning under Miriam Baer with the Junior Team. Ashley just completed her freshman year in the lightweight women's program at the University of Wisconsin Madison.
All four will be training with the competitive team in addition to their coaching positions.
